Make Friends & Socialise

If you or a loved one is looking for a way to get out of the house, make friends and increase social skills, you’ve come to the right place. At Guru Care, we arrange group activities for people living with disabilities in Wollongong, Shellharbour, the Sutherland Shire and all throughout Sydney.

Funded via the NDIS, we rotate our social and group activities monthly, so there’s always something new to try. Our activities often last for about three hours but can be longer in duration depending on what we’re doing. We understand people living with disabilities have unique requirements and offer full support for all attendees.

Whether you’re looking to make friends or just want to enjoy a day out—our disability activities are a great option. Contact our team on (02) 4225 7394 to get started. Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of social activities for people living with disabilities?

There are many benefits of social activities for people living with disabilities. Social activities can help promote independence, self-confidence and self-esteem. They can also help people develop new skills, make friends and feel part of a community. Importantly, social activities can provide a sense of purpose and meaning in life, which can help reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness.

How does the NDIS help with funding social activities?

The NDIS helps with funding social activities by providing financial assistance to people with disabilities so they can participate in community events and activities. This may include financial support for transport, entry fees, accommodation and other costs associated with attending social events.

The NDIS also funds organisations that provide social activities specifically for people with disabilities. This funding helps to make sure people with disabilities have the same opportunities to participate in social activities as everyone else.

What’s the difference between group activities and day programs?

There are a few ways in which group activities differ from day programs for disabled people. Group activities are typically designed to promote social interaction and provide opportunities for participants to interact with one another. This is in contrast to day programs, which often focus on providing services for individuals or smaller groups.

Additionally, group activities are often structured around a certain activity or theme such as sports, arts and crafts or other hobbies. Day programs, on the other hand, may involve learning new skills while out in the community. Some examples of day program activities include going shopping, visiting museums and participating in creative arts classes.
