Warm & Welcoming Short-Term Accommodation

Respite care is an increasingly popular form of support for families with special needs. It provides short-term relief for primary caregivers and offers peace of mind that their loved ones are receiving the best possible care.

If you are looking for a warm and welcoming place for a loved one to stay, you’ve come to the right place. At Guru Care, we provide short-term accommodation for people living with disabilities on the NDIS. Located in Wollongong, we welcome individuals from Shellharbour, the Sutherland Shire and all throughout Sydney.

Our wheelchair-friendly cottage can house up to three people at a time. Our friendly team will also take care of all your loved one’s needs and requirements 24/7 while they’re in our care.

If you’d like to find out more, contact our team today on (02) 4225 7394. We also arrange day programs, host group activities and offer home support for the elderly and those with disabilities, as well as provide around-the-clock support.

Respite Care Benefits

Respite care can provide a much-needed break for people living with disabilities and their carers. It allows carers to take time away from their duties and relax, recharge and do the things they need to do for themselves. For the person receiving care, it can offer an opportunity to meet new people, take part in activities and enjoy a change of scenery.

Respite care can also support people with disabilities in maintaining their independence. It can provide companionship and help develop social skills through interaction with peers in similar situations. In addition, respite care can allow the person receiving care to explore new interests or gain skills they may not have had the opportunity to learn.

Frequently Asked Questions

What services do caregivers provide for people receiving respite care?

Caregivers provide a variety of services to people receiving respite care depending on their individual’s needs. These services can include:

  • Providing companionship & emotional support
  • Helping with meals or grocery shopping
  • Providing transportation to medical appointments
  • Assisting with daily living tasks such as bathing & dressing
  • Administering medications
  • Carrying out light housekeeping tasks
What funding does the NDIS provide for respite care?

The NDIS often covers most costs associated with respite care including any reasonable additional costs associated with the support. This includes funding to help you plan and coordinate your loved one’s respite care such as travel costs, medications and other specialist needs.

The cost of accommodation and food may be covered if they are included in the respite package. The NDIS may also cover the cost of any specialised activities or equipment needed to help your loved one participate in the respite care program.

Assisted Holidays

At Guru Care, we arrange assisted holidays for people living with disabilities. Similar to our respite care services, we’ll handle all your loved one’s needs and requirements while they’re with us. Our team will treat them as if they were our own family members.

We organise assisted holidays every three months and pick a new location each time. We’ve travelled as far as Tasmania in the past! The NDIS provides funding for support and accommodation; however, any additional costs will need to be paid by the participant. We’ll make sure to provide updates about the cost breakdown so you can plan accordingly.
